課程概述 |
This course provides a graduate sequence in applied econometrics that is suitable for Ph.D. students. I plan to cover linear regression models and the associated estimation and testing procedure. In addition, the course introduces some more advanced topics. This is an applied econometrics course with an extensive "hands-on" approach. Theory will be studied in order to be able to develop skills for applied work only. Computer exercises and applications to the real world problems will be emphasized. | |

課程目標 |
Objectives of this course are to prepare students to be able to:
• Conduct empirical work in various economic disciplines • Better formulate research questions • Execute a research project "from scratch", including data collection, data cleaning, statistical programming, and output interpretation • Have enough econometric background to be able to extend their econometric knowledge by self study or by taking more advanced/specialized econometric courses Students will produce a research paper using techniques from the course to study a problem in their own area of interest. Statistical and econometric computing will be closely integrated into the course. Students will get experience doing real empirical work. Most class sessions are organized as lectures. I encourage you to ask questions and participate in discussions. This makes the class more interesting for all involved. I also encourage you to give me any suggestions that you have about improving the course. Since one of the primary requirements to complete the Ph. D degree in our department is to publish/ present research papers. As such, this course requires students to select an interesting topic and to present their preliminary findings or outline the research agenda in the end of this semester. Each student is expected to arrange the individual meeting with me for discussing their potential research idea during the semester. The research paper is due by the beginning of next semester. | |
